Day 6

Hunter's Point

Watching the Isle Royle boat come in.

Jared and I woke up around 7:45. Jacob was up soon after that. We made pancakes this morning. Around 9:30, Jacob and I went into the tent. I cleaned things up in there and made the beds. Jacob woke Adam up. Adam looked out the window at Grandpa’s site, pointed, and said, “Bampa”. Adam ate his breakfast and then walked with Grandma over to their site. We went for a walk around camp. It was 10:30 when we packed lunches and got ready for a trip to Hunter’s point. We hiked to the beach. Jacob loved sliding down the steep hill of rocks and climbing back up. We hiked over the rocks along Lake Superior. Once we reached the point we found a nice spot to sit down and have lunch. Adam was happy to get out of the backpack and play with the rocks. We hiked back to the beach. Jared and I looked through the rocks and found some small agates. We also found rocks that Jared and his Dad called P.W.W. (pretty when wet) rocks. We stopped at Dennis’s and bought the pottery we had picked out. Jacob played with Leslie on the porch as we looked around. Every day Jared and I stop at the General store and get some Stewards pop. Jared gets a root beer and I usually get grape or cream soda. Jacob, who always get the last sip of our drinks, asked me to get “blueberry (grape) pop”. We got back to camp around 3pm. Adam took a nap and Jacob and I lay down to rest. It’s a nice cool day (low 60’s) today. Jacob and I had hot chocolate drinks. Then Jacob pretended to be a paperboy, handing us newspapers and wearing a blinking light on his pocket. We went over to Grandma and Grandpa’s site. Jacob showed them the rocks he’d collected at the beach. Around 5:30 we went to town to watch the Isle Royal boat come in. Jacob told Daddy that he wanted to go in the boat. When Daddy told Jacob that you had to pay to get in the boat Jacob said, “I wanna pay”. Adam liked watching the geese in the water. He’d point at them and say, “dutt-tee (duckie)”. We had a late dinner. Adam was hungry and ready to eat but the food wasn't ready yet. I took the boys in the tent to read until the dinner was ready. After dinner Jacob dug in the dirt with his shovel. Adam filled the bug net with rocks. He’d dump out the rocks and say, “daaap (dump)”. We took a walk with Grandma around camp. Then we visited at their campsite for a while. Jacob went over to our site and played with his tractors and the firewood. He buried his light up toy under the pile of wood. Jacob came with me this evening to give Adam his bath. He helped me scrub his hair. He also would hand things to me and help put them away. Back at camp Daddy got Adam dressed and in bed while I took Jacob down for his shower. We were in bed by 10pm.
