Eating at the Hilltop restraunt.
The stone boat.
Playing on "Pebble beach".
I lay down around last night around 11:45. Jared was awake and neither of us could get to sleep. Since the alarm was set for 12:20am and we were going to be up soon anyway, we decided to get up now. After I put Jacob in his car seat he fell right back to sleep. Adam was very tired when I put him in his seat, but he woke up as soon as he saw Truman down by his feet. The now wide-eyed boy smiled and said, "dow-dee (doggie)". We first stopped at Tim Hortons for coffee's and then we were heading north around 12:45am. I used the night vision on my headlamp to work on knitting a dishcloth. Adam got fussy so I sat back by him for a little while. That made him happy. He loved me to rub his head. He was really wide-eyed as we crossed the Machinaw bridge. He finally fell to sleep at 4:45am. Jacob woke up at about 5am. I was really tired so I rested/slept until 6:30. I could hear Jacob as he excitly pointed out the boats in Lake Superior. We stopped at a roadside park so Jacob could go potty. Thats when Adam woke up. We all got out to stretch and took a little walk. It was around 7:45 when we stopped at the Hilltop Restraunt. The HUGE sweat rolls were really good. The boys also loved the rolls and their choc. milk. We were back on the road by 8:30. Jared pointed out an eagle flying across the road and then above the river. We took a drive thru Calumet. Jared drove down a one-way the wrong-way. We took a little detour of our own through Traprock Valley. We saw some sandhill cranes and some very large elk on a farm. We got out at the stone goat for a stretch. We all had fun climbing on the boat. After leaving there Adam fell asleep and slept until we arrived in Copper Harbor. We worked to keep Jacob awake so he could see the" tunnels" (which he's been looking forward to). He was very excited as we drove thru the trees with all the hills and curves. We arrived in Copper Harbor at 10:30. Adam played in the playpen while we set up the tent. Jacob helped up spread out the tent. He helped Daddy pound in the stakes. Jacob and Daddy set up the dining fly, while Adam and I went in the tent to unpack and set things up in there. After a late lunch we took a walk over to the fort. Battery D was there. We stayed and watched them firing the cannons. Adam had fun walking around in the grass. After a little while Jacob wanted to sit in the stroller. He watch them fire the first couple cannons, but slept thru the rest of them. The loud noises didn't fase Adam at all. When we got back to camp I was sure it was 8pm (I was so tired), I was surprised when Jared told me it was only 4:30. After dinner we took a walk over to "pebble beach". "Pebble" beach is a beautiful rock beach along Lake Superior. Every year the beach seems to look different. Jacob went in the cold water and got really wet. He asked if he could wear just his underware. He loved to kneel down and stick his butt in the water and also enjoyed throwing rocks in the water. Adam also had fun with the rocks, but wasn't real confident walking on them yet. He made sure to stay close to me. Around 6pm we took a walk around camp. This evening we took a senic drive around the area. Jared spotted another bald eagle. Adam fell asleep on the drive. We got back to our campsite around 7:30. It was sprinkling. We got to bed early tonight (soon after 8pm), all of us were very tired.

Kimmy all the pictures are great. Looks like a very scenic and fun filled trip once again. Nice pictures of the kids with grandma and Bumpa. So many memories made...I like the pictures of the four of you. Nice to have those. Great pictures of the kids and all their adventures. Thanks for sharing them with us. Love ya and I sure am glad you are home. We missed you so much.
I love all the pictures. It makes me want to go back there again. I had so much fun that one year we went with you guys. We'll have to do that again sometime. We sure did miss you while you were gone. Maybe we'll see you at mom's tomorrow.
Kimmy...the pictures are awesome. The clothes the children are wearing says it all about the weather. I think this year the blue sky, white clouds, baby hawks, loons singing as well as the company beside us have been the best I can remember in a long time. I'm hungry for pancakes but it just wouldn't be the same without Jacob! We got home around 1:15. Uck. Stopped for gas and a two times to check the load on the back. That was it! Awake at 6:30. Guess I'm still wired.
I just looked at Day One.
I guess there are more. I had better get looking, hadn't I?
But I may string these out over several days . . .
I am glad that you are back and posting again on a regular basis. I am looking forward to looking at Copper Harbor.
Lela, the night we got home I asked Jacob what his favorite part about the Copper Harbor trip was. He thought for a second and said, "playing in the dirt and PANCAKES".
There is nothing like good Copper Harbor sandy dirt and Grandma's pancakes to make a memory. Jacob has those tucked away and will bring them out from time to time. Between you and me...I remember JB as a whole lot dirtier. Maybe it's a bad memory but I think I'm right on this one.
Went out to Hunters Point with some friends in town for the night and thought of you all just out there not long ago. Quiet, glass-like water and a beautiful sunset. There are still a lot of nice rocks left. Didn't see the eagles. It will all be there waiting for you next year!
Wow, I don't think I've ever been to Hunter's Point with quiet, glass like water. I love watching the sunset over Lake Superior. While we were driving today Jacob kept asking if we could go to Copper Harbor. We look forward to next years trip.
