Day in the snow

Server was down on our computer but is back up this morning. Yesterday morning when we woke up it was sleeting outside. We got ready and decided to see how the roads were for a trip to town. They weren't bad so we continued on our way to Tim Horton’s and Dunken Donuts. Then we went to walk around the mall. We stopped and let Jacob run around in their play area. Adam had fun standing by the big grapes and drumming on them. When we got home it was time for lunch. Today Adam would get up in the crawling position and bouncing. Still no forward movement but he sure can get around. While the boys were napping this afternoon Jared and I played Desert Storm on the xbox. Vikki called and asked if we wanted go sledding with their family. We did, so after the boys were up we got things ready and meet them there around 6pm. When we got there I changed the kids in there snow outfits. Jacob was so excited while I was getting him ready. The hill was very slick and fast. (Jared here… lets say the hill was pure ICE!) Jared took Jacob down right away from the very top. (Jared here again, we found a major bump / Jump the first time down… lets just say we caught some major air…I went back and found where we landed after being air born..and it was a solid 4 ft distance) Jacob didn't want to go all the way to the top again ( Jared here… too many bumps going daddy’s way) so I took him from about halfway. Adam got to go from the halfway point a few times also. Then I went down from the top, first with Kenzie and then with Jared. Vikki and I also went down together from the top together but Vikki almost fell off the back. I think she was laying off the back of the sled most of the way down. We were having such a fun time. When we first got there it was just us sledding for a while, then a few more sledding groups came. It was in the high thirty’s for the temp so it was perfect sledding weather. Vikki and I took the boys over to a smaller hill. Jacob got to go down all by himself and then with me. Adam went down with Aunt Vikki. Then her and I took the boys into the warming room and got some cookies and hot chocolate. The guys and Kenzie wanted to keep sledding. (Jared here, we made it a personal goal to see if we could hit the major bump/jump. Kenzie and I went over it backwards, and I’m pretty sure, upon landing, my spinal column compressed about an inch. So after many trips down I took a running start and slid down on my belly… the bumps felt like someone was hitting you in the cut as hard as they could….but it was still a total blast. My gloves were soaking wet so I took them off and I was very warm due to hiking up the hill so my hands were warmer out of the gloves and dry. So I slid down with out gloves for the majority of the night…no big deal as I tried to keep them out of the snow and could dry them off if I did. However the snow was more ice than fluffy snow and at one point my hand went under the sled at the end and the back of my hand and knuckles were cut in several places by the ice crystals…stung like tons of small paper cuts and bled slightly but it certainly didn’t keep me off the hill. We had been going down one particular side of the hill most of the time and so Kenzie told me about the other side and having some bumps etc. I though ok sounds like fun. As we got ready to go down I noticed this side seemed a bit steeper and was totally a solid sheet of ice in that it was even hard to stand up. We went down together and about half way down I’m pretty sure I heard the echo of the sound barrier breaking… and she was right about the bumps…At about mock 2 we hit one huge and might bump, caught some air and as we came down we hit the second one and wow did that rattle your teeth. But yes I’d do it again … but not real soon. Ok back to Kimmy’s version of the night) In the warming room they have a fire going and a huge window with a view of the sledding hill. Soon we were back out sledding again and having so much fun! I took Jacob down the hill several more time and when we got to the bottom he’d shout “again”. Kenzie went down the short hill standing up – then Jared tried it. (Jared here again… that standing thing was a bit of a mistake as I went end over end at the bottom… and no I didn’t try that again.) Then Jacob pointed to the top of the hill and said, “I want go up dere”. Jared took him down the big hill and when they were at the bottom he jumped up and down and shouted, “I did it, I did it, I did it, I go gain”. He and Kenzie went down side hill together many times and then Jacob went down all by himself. He thought that was really fun. He did it by himself many times and thought it was fun to crash into the other sled. (Jared here to wrap up… Even with the many bumps etc. it was a total blast… the hill was a solid sheet of ice and made for some amazing speeds, amazing jumps and bruises… It feels like I’ve been riding a horse for a couple of hours and every muscle in my back feels a bit tight…but again, you can never pass up an opportunity to go sledding. Due to the temps I was soaked to the bone but my feet stayed warm and dry thanks to the plastic bags I put my feet in before I put my boots on… we didn’t have any bread bags. Looking forward to cooler temps and more snow for sledding trip number 2) They closed at 9pm and we stayed until they closed. Before we left Kenzie and I went down a couple times from the top and tried to pick spots with many bumps. Jared was holding Jacob when we got down to the bottom of the hill. I guess he had taken a face dive into the snow from his sled. His cheek was still red when we got home. Vikki bought us all hot cider before heading home. We look forward to sledding again soon.

It looks as if you all had fun!

The picture of Adam on the sled by himself with his arms out looks as if he is a stuffed cuddle toy!! (From the other pictures, I think he really is a cuddle toy -- although not stuffed.)

I am beginning to wonder again about another substitution for Jacob -- in several pictures from yesterday he is looking older.

Jared, in his hat, looks even younger that he really is, so I am wondering whether Jacob and Jared will pass each other in age at some future point . . . say, around age 12 or 20.

Love all the sledding pictures. Looks like lots of fun. I can't wait to go sledding there. That's my favorite place to sled. Hailey is going to love it this year. Melissa

I can't believe it was all ice. Usually it is all soft snow there. When we go sledding on the hills that Bruce grew up sledding on they are always all ice and huge. Jared would sure have fun on those ones. Bruce likes the bumps and ice too. It scares me going so fast on those steep hills though, especially with the trees here and there. That's why I always like going to the place over by you cause there is no trees to worry about and there is a nice place to warm up and get some good hot chocolate. Well, sounds like you had lots of fun. Melissa

Videos...I think you could win big money on Americas Funniest Videos. It sounds like JB has about as much sense as some of the people who get big bucks for all the (dumb) things they do on that show. Good grief. Sounds like dumb fun! Go JB and family.
