Day 4

Both boys slept through the night. Adam woke up at 6:30, nursed, and fell back to sleep until 9am. Jacob woke up at 8am - I was looking at him and he opened his eyes, smiled and said, "Hi, I awake". After breakfast we walked over to pebble beach. A goose came up close to shore and Jacob said, "I ho hold" Then he told Daddy, "a goose". We took Jacob to play at the playground. Grandma and Grandpa watched Truman and Adam while we took Jacob to the gift shop to pick out a patch for his sweatshirt. On the way back to camp he held the patch in his hands right up on his chest. On the trail next to Fanny Howe Jacob looked back at us and said, "Oh no". He had dropped his patch and it was no where in sight. We went back and found it in the dirt back by the fort. Grandma was taking Adam for a walk. Grandpa made Jacob a walking stick just his size. While both boys were asleep Jared got a fire ready for making aluminum foil dinners. As we sat down for dinner Jacob asked if he could color. When we told him he could color after dinner he made a dissapointed, "Ahhhh" sound. Gave Jacob some sips of my hot chocolate and he said, "mmmm thats good, more please". Jacob wanted "green cold cream" but when he saw Daddy's pink he wanted that instead. He loved watching the tractor and dump truck out working on the driveway at the ice cream store. Family joined us around the fire tonight and then later we made smores.

Day 5

I had a dream last night about a

spider, as big as my hand, was crawling under the playpen. I remember waking Jared up and asking him if the spider was real. Grandma came down and sat with us as Jacob ate his breakfast. She took a walk with us around camp and then we took our morning walk over to pebble beach and the fort. Grandma and Grandpa watched Truman while we took the boys to the Great Sand bay. Adam lay on a blanket under a large umbrella for shade. Jared went far out in Lake Superior and said the water was numbing cold. At first Jacob didn't want to go in the water - he just wanted to play in the sand. Daddy took him over to a little creek that ran into the Lake and he ran up and down in that. He would run until he feet were in the lake - the he'd say, "thats cold". Daddy sat with Adam and I took him back over to the creek where I chased him back and forth, splashing behind him and making him laugh hard. I took him into the lake to wash the sand off and after that he didn't want to get out. He would lay in the water with just his head sticking out. Daddy came over and played in the water with him. Jacob would run up on the beach and turn towards the water. Then he would say, "three, two, three" and run into the water landing on his knees. We sepnt a couple hours on the beach and then decided to head back for lunch. After lunch I took Jacob into the tent to read to him before his nap. We got new neighbors next to us who were drinking heavely and using very bad language loudly. They got so bad that Jared went to the gate house to discuss the situation with them. They were very nice and said they would sent the night watchman to talk with them. If that didn't work they would call the sheriff. Luckely they packed up and left the next day.

Day 6

We celebrated Grandpa's birthday today by going out for lunch at the Tamarack. Jacob was very tired and fell asleep on the drive back to camp. When the boys woke up we went to Dennis's shore and check out his pottery. Then we went to the Laughing Loon store. When we got back to our car it sounded like the boat was coming in from Isle Royale. We hurried over so we could watch it come in. Jacob loved watching it and kept saying, "Me boat" because he wanted us to take him on the boat. While we were eating our dinner, Grandma took Adam for a walk around camp in his stroller. At the Berry Patch tonight Jacob started out wanting "green cold cream" but ended up wanted my blue. We took a nice evening walk around the park until it was dark. Jacob kept walking over by the trucks and saying, "Me jump truck" and then he'd jump. The boys went to bed quickly. Adam woke up at 5:30am, nursed and fell back asleep until ~9am. Jacob rolled over when he heard Adam fussing and said, "hi mama". He said, "Ho hold, mama's hand" and I held his hand - he fell asleep quickly.

Day 7

We took a walk over to the fort this morning to check out the activities

with Battery D (a civil war reenactment). Then we took a walk over to pebble beach. Got the kids ready and headed over to the Central mine where Grandma and Grandpa were. On the car ride over Jacob was saying, "hi mama" - Jared was trying to get him to say hi Daddy. After a minute he said, "look mama, hi Daddy". At the mine Adam stayed with Grandma while we took Jacob to find Grandpa, who was searching for copper. Jacob was a little scared to walk on the rocks so he was carried most of the time. When we got back Grandpa showed us what he found. He gave Jacob a piece of copper and a toothbrush to clean it with. We then went to Hunter's point and took the kids on a hike to Lake Superior. The trail has alot of rocks and roots which caused Jacob to trip a few times. When we were nearer to the beach Jacob seemed tired of walking and wanted to be carried. We encouraged him to walk and he made it to the beach where we sat down for a break. We snacked on fish crackers and water. Jacob asked if he could put a fish cracker in the water - he threw a couple in and came back to sit on the rocks. The cool breeze of the water felt really good. We walked up shore a little ways and sat on the beach with a bunch of little smooth rocks. I took Adam out of the carrier and lay him on a blanket under a shade tree. He had lots of smiles. We stayed on the beach for ~2 1/2 hrs and looked through the rocks. Jared found a small piece of an agate. On the hike back Jacob did great - he loved walking over the bridges. After dinner we took the boys over to the fort and watched them fire the cannons. When they fired the first cannon, Jacob said, "cool bang". I asked if he wanted to see it again and he said, "no, I'm pine". They did fire it again and he said, "again". On our way back to our site we saw an elderly man who had fallen over on his bike. Jared walked his bike back to his site and we walked with them. After ice cream tonight we took a late night walk. We were in bed by 10:30 and Adam went right to sleep. Jacob lay there until ~11:30 when he started crying, saying his foot hurt. He was happy when I took his foot out of his pjs so I changed his pajamas and he went right to sleep.

I was getting Jacob ready in the tent this morning when Jared came up to the screen and told him to touch noses. Jacob put his finger on Daddy's nose. Jared then told him, "with your nose" so Jacob put his finger on his nose also. Our neighbors dog chewed through its leash and was running around. Me and another lady caught it and found its owners. This morning we watched Batter D fire both cannons twice - Jacob jumped every time. After lunch I took Jacob over to play in Lake Fanny Howe. He started throwing rocks in and then ran back and forth in the shallow water. I read him some books and lay him down for a nap. Grandma came down to read at our site and stayed with Jacob while we went over to the fort to see them fire the cannons again and see "Dr Bandit". Adam slept right through the second cannons firing. Jacob was still napping when we got back. I gave Adam a bath and he loved it. Went over to pebble beach for a while and then it was time for ice cream. Walked around camp, gave Jacob a shower and got in bed by 10:30 pm.

Day 8

Last night a bear was in the campsite next to our and got into their coffee. This morning Grandma made us pancakes for breakfast. We went for a walk around camp and over to pebble beach. I held Adam on the steps while Jacob threw rocks in the lake with Daddy. Jared threw a stick in the water for Truman to fetch. Jacob tried to trow the stick in for Truman but it only landed ~6 inches in the water. Truman got a ways out in the water before he realized it wasn't out there. We went into town to walk around some shops. Jacob walked on his harness and Adam rode in the stroller. This evening Jacob wanted, "brown cold cream". They were all out of my favorite playdough flavor and would be getting it back in on Tuesday. Around 8:45pm we headed up Brockway Mt to watch the sunset. It was a bit cooler up there so we changed the boys into warmer clothes. The view of Lake Superior was awesome. We watched the sunset into the clouds above Lake Superior and it was beautiful. Adam talked away in my arms and drowled all over my shoulder. When the sun was down Jacob said, "Bye ton".

Day 9

This morning we headed over to pebble beach to search for our first letterbox. It was a nice, scenic trail out to the area where we were to begin looking. Adam rode in the jeep stroller, Truman walked behind us, and Jacob and Daddy walked behind him. After finding it, Jacob helped Daddy push the stamps down in the notebooks. He seemed to like seeing what was under the stamps after he pushed them down. It felt so nice and cool in the woods next to Lake Superior. Once we were out of the woods it felt so hot and humid - we decided to take a trip to the Great Sand bay and to the Jampot. The temperature dropped 11 degrees from Copper Harbor to the Bay. I sat on the beach with Adam in the cool breeze while Jared and Jacob played by the water. The waves were coming in strong so Jacob wouldn't go in the water. He would run to the edge of the water, throw something in it, and run up towards me before the waves brought the water back. Adam was happy and full of smiles on the beach. We stayed at the beach for ~1 1 /2 hrs before going to the Jampot for some treats. Jacob fell asleep on the drive back and stayed asleep when I lay him in the tent. Adam slept in his swing. Jared and I played mexican train dominos. Grandma came down and stayed with the sleeping boys while Jared and I went to Dennis's and looked at his pottery. Later this evening we went over to Grandma's site and Jacob asked Grandma for some chalk. She got out her sidewalk chalk. They drew on the road and then Jacob decided to bang them together and said, "I sing". I was blowing bubbles for Jacob today when one landed in the dirt and he decided to eat it. He picked up a handful of dirt and shoved it into his mouth. After ice cream this evening, we took a walk over to pebble beach - the breeze of the lake felt great.

Day 10

Adam woke up around 7am. I nursed him and lay him back in bed. Jared and I were up this morning and, for the first time, out of the tent before the boys woke up. Soon Jacob woke up and was ready for breakfast. It was already warm enough outside for the kids to wear their shorts. We took a walk around camp and found some firewood at an empty campsite. We piled it in front of Adam, on the stroller and took it back to our site. Then we took a walk over to Pebble beach to see if there was a breeze coming off the lake - there wasn't - it was just as hot over there. Today we all decided was a good day to take a trip to Calumet. This is something we usually do on a rainy day but it doesn't look like we are going to have any of them this trip. We needed to get gas in the car - the low fuel light had been on. I was a little nervous when Jared passed a gas station and said we could make it to the next one. I think we pulled in the gas station on fumes. We ate at the Evergreen for lunch. Andrew happily played with his toys at the end of the table. Jacob played with the silverwear, sugar and jelly and ate very little of his food. Adam sat next to me at the other ende of the table in his stroller and on my lap. After lunch we walked with Grandma and Grandpa over to look through and old church. We then walked over to an art gallery and a shop in town. In the shop we got some salt water taffy. Jacob seemed exhausted and Jared said he'd be asleep within 5 miles of our trip back - he was fast asleep in 3 miles. When we got back to camp, he finished his nap in the tent. I nursed Adam and he also fell asleep so Jared and I played dominos until Jacob woke up. Jacob ate leftovers from lunch for his dinner. Jared actually took it over to Grandma's to be heated in her microwave. Jacob got done with his sandwich and said, "I ate all gone". He had a cup of milk and was dunking his grilled cheese sandwich in it. Jacob played with his trucks on the table - he handed me one, kept one for himself and then handed Daddy one saying, "and Daddy". He was pretending one was a "cold cream truck" He would push the truck over to me and say "more cold cream". Then he would back the truck up and want me to take some ice cream. When I asked what color it was, he'd say, "green". This evening I was washing my hands in the ladies room when something flew behind be and landed by the door. It was a bat and I moved to get a closer look and it flew my way causing me to run out of the bathroom. Jacob didn't eat much of his ice cream before handing it to me saying, "snack, juice". Then he kept asking for, "wather". We went back to camp to get him and drink and take him down to the bathroom for a shower.
